SEATTLE, WA (MC) — Amazon Web Services (AWS) set to announce a new developer incentive program that takes technology activism to a brand new level. AWS Badgez will be made available to individual developers to incentivize adoption of new AWS services by their employers. Reward levels are based on number of services used and level of utilization of those services. Reward accelerators kick in when a complete categories of service are utilized as well as inflated usage being attributed to companies that Amazon deems to be less desirable.
Developer Scott Cobolski, spoke on the condition of anonymity, was elated at the prospect. “I can’t wait to recommend useless services to my employer. I don’t pay the bill anyway, and now I’ll get all these pog skills to put on my resume, pay off my Prius, and get cool swag — and be able find a better place to work. It’s a win win, right?”
When asked about whether this type of program was ethical, the reply from a truly anonymous AWS executive was simply: “We’re Amazon, who cares if it is ethical?”
